Saturday at Art Factory: Carmen Karma Unplugged

I got tipped off by a friend about Carmen Karma, an all-girl pop-punk band from Buenos Aires who are a lot more punk than pop. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from it. Although I have a strong affinity for female rockers, especially bands with lesbian members, any local recorded rock music I’d heard thus far in Argentina had sounded generic and uninteresting.

CK’s  show at a small, dark, basement bar in Palermo, however, surprised me. The band motored through a set of tight hard and punk rock like pros. We should have been moshing but it wasn’t that kind of place. Their power felt  like  seeing Bikini Kill for the first time, except that Carmen Karma can actually play their instruments.

The band’s Saturday show in Art Factory’s bar will be acoustic, however, because we have geriatric neighbors who call the police on our shows when they get too loud. If the band played fully electric, the shit would hit the fan about 30 seconds into their first song. Still, I’m really excited to hear them again and to be the one to bring them to Art Factory.

Imperdible!

The show starts at 10 and costs $10 pesos for those outside the hostel.
