arteBA, Buenos Aires’ biggest international art fair, opened Thursday night with a free bash. Chandon champagne flowed freely while show girls (and guys) wandered around the huge La Rural convention center. Although the press box and the skater ramp got some attention, and everyone gawked at the two story pillar of Converse sneakers, by far the biggest and most enthusiastic crowds gathered around Appetite gallery’s bursting at the seams booth. In more ways than one.
Things got a lot more, uh, bare, after that.
I can say that I’ve never been to an art fair that was quite so perverse. But, hey, this is Argentina.
arteBA continues through Tuesday evening. I believe a day pass is AR $30 but I don’t know for sure since we got in for free on a press pass. The Web site doesn’t say. Whatever, it’s inexpensive and there’s plenty to see.
La Rural is located right next to the Plaza Italia subte stop, Line D.
